Neil: This is Real English from BBC Learning
English. I’m Neil.
Helen: 還有我,Helen。
Neil: Today we’re going to look at words and phrases
that have recently become part of the English language.
Helen: 在 Real English
這個(gè)環(huán)節(jié),我們來一起學(xué)學(xué)英語中出現(xiàn)的新短語和表達(dá)方式。今天要學(xué)的新詞兒是什么呢,Neil?
Neil: Today’s new word is 'tribute band'.
Helen: Tribute band?這是什么呀?
Neil: I’ll explain. This phrase is made up of two
words 'tribute' and 'band'.
Helen: 由兩個(gè)詞組成, tribute 禮物,貢品; 還有 band 樂隊(duì)。
Neil: A tribute band is a group of musicians which
only plays the music of a famous group – for example The Beatles – as a tribute
to them.
Helen: 哦,原來這個(gè) tribute band 只演奏一些非常出名的,有聲望的樂隊(duì)的音樂。
Neil: That’s right.
Helen: 他們很流行嗎? Neil?
Neil: Well, yes. Nowadays many people love the
Beatles, for example, but it is impossible to see them perform live. However,
you could go and see a tribute band and have almost the same experience.
Helen: 那現(xiàn)在,有很多這種專門模仿經(jīng)典樂隊(duì)的樂隊(duì)嗎?
Neil: Yes. There are tribute bands to Abba, The Doors,
The Rolling Stones, and many others.
Insert
A: I watched The Doors live in concert yesterday.
B: What? That’s impossible. Their singer died in 1971!
A: Well, it wasn’t the real Doors. It was a tribute band,
from Australia actually. They were really good.
Helen: 你見過那些翻唱樂隊(duì)嗎?Neil?
Neil: Oh yes. I saw an Abba tribute band a while ago.
It was fantastic.
Helen: Really? So they were good, then.
Neil: Yes. It’s almost like watching the real
thing.
Helen: 那在那么熱烈的現(xiàn)場,你有沒有跟著一起唱啊。
Neil: Yes, of course, that’s the best bit. Everyone
sang along.
Helen: 哇哦,那下次還有這樣的演出,記得告訴我,我也要和你一起去體驗(yàn)一下。
Neil: That’s a good idea, Helen. I’m sure you’ll enjoy
yourself.
Helen: 好吧,那讓我們來復(fù)習(xí)一下今天學(xué)的 – a tribute band –
就是一個(gè)專門模仿已經(jīng)出了名的樂隊(duì)保留下來的經(jīng)典曲目,服飾和聲音都是保留著經(jīng)典樂隊(duì)之前的樣子。
Neil: It looks like we are out of time. You’ve been
