Neil: Hello, this is Real English from BBC Learning
English, I’m Neil.
Neil: In Real English, we look at words and phrases
that you might not find in your dictionary.
Helen:
Neil: That’s right, Helen.
Neil?
Neil: Today’s new word is recycle. R.E.C.Y.C.L.E.
Recycle.
Helen: Recycle. Recycle
Neil: This is a word that refers to how we dispose of
the things we use in daily life.
Helen: What do you mean, Neil?
Neil: Well, in the past people just threw away things
like glass bottles, empty tins and paper after they used them. But it is more
common nowadays to use the thing again. So using something again instead of
throwing it away is recycling.
Neil: Well, I recycle plastic bags. When I go to the
supermarket I take a plastic bag with me to use again. I don’t need to use a new
one.
Helen: So Neil
Neil: The main reason to recycle things is to help
protect the environment. By using something again and again we use fewer
resources.
Neil: Exactly.
Insert
A: Hey don’t throw that bottle in the rubbish bin.
B: Why not?
A: Because you should recycle it. You could use it
again.
Helen: So is recycling common in the UK, Neil?
Neil: Yes, it is. In fact many local councils help
people to recycle by giving them special bins to put glass, paper, plastic and
metal in. Then the council collects the items for recycling.
Neil: Well, looks like we’re out of time. So let’s
recap.
Helen: Good idea. To recycle
Neil: That’s all from Real English from BBC Learning
English. Bye.
Helen: Bye.
