US newspapers reported that the popular US television series, “Desperate Housewives,” will end its run after the next season.

Run is a word that is used in so many different ways than just moving fast. When a TV show “ends its run,” it stops. When someone “runs on at the mouth,” that means he talks too much. If you get a “run” in your stocking, that means you have a long tear.
If your job “runs its course,” that means the job is over. If you find another job that is even better, “run for it,” which means hurry to get that job. If you don’t get that new job, you “made a run for it”, meaning you tried. If you “run up” a bill, that means you are ordering too much food or drink. When you “run the numbers,” you check the charges on that bill.
Run除了“跑”的意思，還有很多種用法。比如，電視節(jié)目可以end its run（停播）；某人可能run on at the mouth（話太多）；長(zhǎng)襪可能get a run（抽絲了）。
如果你的工作run its course，意思是工作結(jié)束了。如果你發(fā)現(xiàn)一份更好的工作，那就要run for it（趕快爭(zhēng)取）。如果你沒(méi)有得到那份新工作，你可以說(shuō)你已經(jīng)made a run for it（努力過(guò)了）。如果你run up一份賬單，意味著你點(diǎn)了太多吃的。當(dāng)你run the numbers，就是說(shuō)你算一下賬單上的費(fèi)用。
